Edinburgh Animal Rights (EAR)

EAR was established in 1996. The group aims to end animal suffering by promoting animal rights.

In the past 12 months EAR has organised a demonstration outside the Roslin Institute to mark World Day for Laboratory Animals 1997, taken part in the Living Without Cruelty Exhibition held in Edinburgh last year and mounted an excellent campaign against visiting animal circuses to the area.

Other successful campaigns have included fur, bloodsports and factory farming. Most recently exotic meats sales e.g. ostrich and kangaroo in Tesco and Sainsbury’s have been targeted through a letter writing campaign. One member, John Cowan is engaged in an ongoing dialogue with Sainsbury’s.

EAR takes part in national and worldwide campaigns and covers a variety of issues. Regular city centre stalls ensure information is given out to the public on all these issues and help is always needed. If you would like to support EAR, please phone (0131) 441 1665 for more details.
