Hillgrove Farm - The Facts

Hillgrove Farm run by Christopher Brown is no ordinary farm. Hidden at the back are windowless sheds, which house 1,000 cats and kittens. These kittens are bred to be used in vivisection laboratories where they will be used in painful and horrific experiments. Kittens at Hillgrove are tattooed in the ear with pliers then they are sold to labs from just 6 weeks old. Hillgrove have admitted that 10% of kittens born there are killed by their mothers due to stress. The breeding cats (queens) are bred from continuously, when their breeding begins to slow they are killed, before they have reached half their life expectancy. MPs, the RSPCA and the Cats Protection League have all condemned Hillgrove.

An ex Hillgrove worker said:

"It began to really upset me when I used to look at kittens only days old and think about the misery they would soon endure. I couldn't take anymore so I left. It makes me cry when I think of the kittens still inside Hillgrove."
These are examples of the kind of experiments these cats and kittens will be used for:
'...the heads of cats were placed in holding frames and one eye completely removed. The hole at the back of the eye was enlarged with a dental drill until a cerebral artery could be reached. An electrode was then applied so that blood clotted and further blood flow prevented. Six hours later the cats were killed and their heads were cut off and examined.'
'Kittens from 4 days old were given 5-8 injections of LSD, although the researchers admitted in their report that the "Behavioural effects of LSD in animals have received monumental attention and literally thousands of studies have dealt with this issue." So what do they do? They performed another one anyway! The kittens showed unco-ordination, headshakes, tremors, limb flicking, abortive grooming, vomiting, hair standing on end, dilated pupils and salivation.'
'.....Researchers blinded two tabby kittens by sewing up their conjunctivae and eyelids. The kittens were then placed in a special holder and a horseradish peroxidase was injected into their brains. The kittens were then killed.'

Since the Save the Hillgrove Cats campaign first started interest in the campaign has steadily increased. Thousands of people now attend the demos which are held regularly outside Hillgrove Farm. Media interest has been intense and more and more people now know about the horrors of Hillgrove. Campaigning has included producing leaflets, fact-sheets, petitioning, letter writing and demos.

Pressure has been put on to the Home Office in Swindon (who give Hillgrove their licence to operate) and Oxford Councillors and local MPs.
