The fourth Trident submarine, Vengeance, is to be launched on 22 August at Barrow. This tells us a lot about the present Government's unwillingness to undertake it's commitments under International Law. Action is therefore likely to go ahead. Please support this action. You can contact the Edinburgh Affinity Group through the Peace and Justice Centre. Leave a message for Maire-Colette on (0131) 229 0993. In addition Edinburgh CND are running a coach to a demonstration at Faslane on Saturday 15th August. The cost for the return journey is £7 with concessions available - contact Mathew Crichton on (0131) 661 7785 for more details.
The walk from Belgium to Scotland aims to raise awareness of nuclear issues, especially Britain's nuclear defences and Trident. Nuclear weapons are dangerous, hugely expensive, vastly damaging to the environment and immoral. To use or threaten to use them is contrary to International Law.
We are walking for peace and a nuclear-free world! Everyone is welcome to join in for as long as they want - it's an ideal opportunity for people to meet, talk, relax, have fun and do something towards nuclear disarmament and peace in the world.
The Scottish leg of the walk is scheduled for 1-9 August 1998.
We will walk an average of 16 miles a day, six days a week. You can join the walk at any point and continue for as long as you want. Be prepared to walk in all weathers.
Three meals a day of vegetarian and vegan food will be provided along the way.
We will be camping outside, so please bring a tent and sleeping bag (which will be carried in the support van). Please travel light. (Additional luggage can also be taken in the van, but there is a 7kg limit per person.) The walk costs a minimum of £5.25 a day.
