National Day of Action against Sainsburys

On Saturday July 25th local groups (including EAR) and individuals across the country will be taking part in this day of action against Sainsburys.

Last year VIVA successfully lobbied Tesco to remove kangaroo meat from it's stores. Sainsburys are now the only national chain still selling kangaroo flesh.

From VIVA's action pack

In Australia the largest wildlife massacre on the planet is taking place. Imagine this. A mother kangaroo, grooming her beautiful joey at night in the vast wild outback suddenly has huge lights shone at her to send her into shock. She is petrified. A young man takes aim to shoot her in the head - and blows her chest open. She falls in pain, helpless to save her joeys. Her youngest retreats terrified into her pouch. The man pulls him out, tosses him to the ground and stamps on his head. He writhes in agony and is left to die. Her older joey frantically hops away, but she has no chance of survival without her mother. She dies a slow lonely death from starvation.

The shot mother is slashed through her leg and hooked upside down on a truck. It is now legal to kill FOUR MILLION kangaroos every year. The real death toll is nearer TEN MILLION. This is the biggest massacre of any land species ever. And Sainsbury are supporting it!
