Cruelty Free Living
Issue 6: December-February 1999/2000

Editorial

Welcome to the sixth issue of the newsletter which draws on the overlap between human rights, animal rights and environmental issues and aims to facilitate communication between groups and individuals active in any or all of these areas.

As the twentieth century draws to a close we would like to wish all our readers a pleasant and cruelty free Yule, Christmas and Hogmanay.

For local activists involved in the Jubilee 2000 and Trident Ploughshares campaigns, it is a particularly important time as we enter the new century, so we offer our good wishes and support to those campaigns and the others we regularly cover such as those pitted against the A701 development, GM food, Quintiles vivisection, the death penalty and hunting with dogs.

It is ordinary people in and around Edinburgh who keep the momentum of these local campaigns going, so why not lend a hand if you have some spare time. Think global, act local and get involved - let that be your New Year's resolution.

Advertising and sponsorship

We have been heartened by the response to the request for financial assistance, which we made in the last issue. Thanks to donations, advertising and the generous offer of sponsorship from Oliver and Stoddard, the financial survival of the newsletter is now secure. We would like to acknowledge the support we have received from South East Scotland Vegetarians, Glasgow Vegans, World Development Movement, the Baked Potato Shop, City of Edinburgh Council's Festival of the Environment and Helen Narracott and Ian Grant Cumming of Oliver and Stoddard.

There is of course plenty of scope to improve and increase the distribution of this newsletter, so if you are in a position to support the newsletter financially, please contact us to discuss advertising or sponsorship. Donations (made payable to Cruelty Free Guide to Edinburgh) are also of course much appreciated and can be sent to the address on this page.

The Cruelty Free Guide to Edinburgh

Since 1995 we have produced one edition of the Cruelty Free Guide to Edinburgh every year and the modest profits have been used to launch this newsletter. The 1998-99 edition of the guide will probably be our last. It contains information about restaurants, shops, organisations, accommodation and other guides which cater for the Cruelty Free consumer. It can be purchased in most good health food shops or by mail order by sending £2.50 (payable to the Cruelty Free Guide to Edinburgh) to the address below.
